Are there any plans to sit quarterback Matthew Stafford this week vs. Packers?
Patricia was asked if we might see Matt Cassel at quarterback this week with Stafford still battling a back injury and there being nothing to play for in terms of the postseason.
“We’ll approach every week the same and I think there’s something to play for every single week,” Patricia said. “That’s what we’re going to try and do. We’re always competitive. We’re always trying to compete and to us it’s important.”
If Stafford’s back allows him to play Sunday, I expect the 10-year vet to make his 127th consecutive start and try to finish out the 2018 season on a positive note.
Have there been any conversations with veteran safety Glover Quin about retirement?
Quin has been a key component in Detroit’s secondary since coming over in free agency in 2013. He has 19 interceptions over the last six seasons and was a Pro Bowler in 2014 for the Lions.
Quin is playing out his 10th NFL season, and has said he’s thought about retirement in conversations with the media this year.
“For myself it’s pretty standard to just make sure that we’re focusing on this year and we’re concentrating on everything we do to prepare that week. I think that’s the most professional and appropriate thing to do,” Patricia said.
“I’ve always had the philosophy of the season itself is a long, hard grind and sometimes you need to take a couple minutes after the season to let yourself come back down. I think that’s everyone in the entire organization. For us, we just stay in the moment and handling our business that week … and that’s really the right way to approach it.”
Are any of the injuries suffered to players Sunday potential injured reserve candidates?
Luke Willson (concussion), A’Shawn Robinson (knee) and DeShawn Shead (knee) were the most significant injuries suffered vs. Minnesota.
Patricia said the team is still working through the medicals on all three players and didn’t have any immediate updates.
