It seems even the Detroit Lions‘ most uplifting news is marred by football tragedy. On Monday the team announced that it will be launching a player-driven social justice initiative in the city of Detroit, with a $600,000 startup commitment from players as well as Lions’ owner and chairman Martha Firestone Ford. Fans of the franchise were very happy to see their team doing their part to the help the community I’m sure, but not so happy with the local news choice of B-roll. They showed the Detroit secondary giving up a Hail Mary to the division-rival Vikings.
The Lions just can’t seem to escape the public shots taken at their franchise’s “storied” history. Even Jeopardy didn’t mind getting in on the fun a few weeks back before the NFL regular season was even over.
But I guess that’s what you get after six decades of losing. Here’s to the next six!
