Packers drop in final NFL.com Power Rankings of 2018

The Green Bay Packers suffered a 31-0 loss to the Detroit Lions last Sunday and they end their 2018 season with a 6-9-1 record. As a result, their place in the final Power Rankings of the 2018 season is near the bottom of the league.

Elliot Harrison of NFL.com released his final Power Rankings of the 2018 season and the Packers came in at No. 21. Last week, the Packers were ranked No. 17 after getting a 44-38 win over the New York Jets.

Here’s a look at what Harrison had to say about the Packers:

“The rumor mill is already in full, uhh, milling. Josh McDaniels is the name that is popping up most prominently in the Packers’ head-coaching search. Whoever the new frontman will be, he won’t glean much from the Week 17 game tape. That would be like a film major learning the trade from watching hours and hours of “The Legend of Hercules” or “Fifty Shades Darker.” Everything about the loss to the Lions was humiliating for Green Bay, from zero points to zero opportunity to score points to zero defense. The Pack was outgained by 227 yards. Detroit totaled 16 more first downs. You know how many rushing yards the Green Bay running backs gained? Six. Six. If there was indeed a worse season-ending loss in Packers history, I don’t want to look it up.”

One of the things that hurt the Packers on Sunday was Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion in the first quarter and DeShone Kizer had to come in. That led to the Packers only recording 175 yards of total offense while the Lions had 402 yards. Also, it was reported Rodgers was taken to the hospital for more testing on his concussion symptoms. He was later spotted at the Packers’ facility once the game was over. Rodgers did not speak to reporters after the game since he was in the concussion protocol.

Rodgers finished with 26 passing yards vs. the Lions. He finishes 2018 season with 4,442 passing yards, 25 touchdowns and just two interceptions.

There were fans who did not want Rodgers to play in the final game of the season because the team was eliminated from playoff contention after Week 15. However, Rodgers wanted to be out there to show what type of leader he is.

“I think it’s a lot about leadership,” Rodgers said before the Packers Week 16 game against the New York Jets. “If I want to be listened to and followed and looked up to, how could I stand here and say that these games that don’t matter for playoffs, I’m going to cash it in? That’s just not the way I lead, and I’m super-competitive, and I want to be out there with the guys and I look forward to being out there.”

Now that the season is over, the Packers have amped up their head coaching search. Some of the coaches the Packers will interview are Josh McDaniels, Dan Campbell, Brian Flores and Matt LaFleur.
