NFL coaching carousel 2019: Latest news and rumors about head coach searches

The NFL currently has eight head coach openings and the news, rumors and speculation surrounding those positions is abundant. A bunch of former head coaches and current assistant coaches are connected to those openings. Here’s a look at the latest news, rumors and interviews from reports around the league.

The head coach openings:

Arizona Cardinals: Fired Steve Wilks.

They were interested in former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, but McCarthy opted to decline an interview. Fired Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase is expected to receive an interview. The Cardinals have contacted New Orleans Saints tight ends coach Dan Campbell, Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor and USC offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury.

Cincinnati Bengals: Fired Marvin Lewis.

Expected to interview former Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson. Expected to interview Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. The Bengals will interview former Denver head coach Vance Joseph, according to multiple reports. Requested interviews with Los Angeles Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor and New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, McDaniels has declined.

Cleveland Browns: Fired Hue Jackson.

Interviewed interim coach Gregg Williams. Interviewed Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell. Expected to interview offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, former Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy, Saints assistant head coach/tight end Dan Campbell and Minnesota Vikings interim offensive coordinator Kevin Stefanski, Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Patriots defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

Denver Broncos: Fired Vance Joseph.

They have interviewed former Indianapolis Colts head coach Chuck Pagano. Expected to interview Taylor and New England defensive coordinator Brian Flores, Munchak and Fangio.

Green Bay Packers: Fired Mike McCarthy.

They have interviewed Caldwell and Pagano. Expected to interview interim head coach Joe Philbin, Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Matt LeFleur, New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael, Patriots McDaniels and Flores, along with Campbell. They are hoping to talk to Northwestern head coach Pat Fitzgerald.

Miami Dolphins: Fired Adam Gase.

Expected to interview Fangio, Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard, Steelers Munchak and Bieniemy. A darkhorse candidate is former New York Jets and Buffalo Bills head coach Rex Ryan. Could try to lure University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh.

New York Jets: Fired Todd Bowles.

Interviewed Bieniemy. Expected to interview Gase, along with Richard and Kingsbury. Trying to connect with McCarthy and are interested in Caldwell. They have requested permission to interview Tampa Bay offensive coodinator Todd Monken.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Fired Dirk Koetter.

Interviewed Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy. Former Arizona Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians has indicated he would listen if the Buccaneers contacted him. Expected to interview Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards.

In related coaching news, Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn fired offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian and defensive coordinator Marquand Manuel. Quinn has interview former Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Mularkey for the offensive coordinator position and is expected to interview former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell. Quinn is expected to take on the defensive coordinator position.
