Lions claim defensive end from Saints, place A’Shawn Robinson on IR

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions are going to limp to the finish line without at least 14 players due to injury.

A’Shawn Robinson is the latest victim, landing on injured reserve Friday because of a knee injury he sustained last week against Minnesota. He joins an IR list that’s crowded by the likes of Ezekiel Ansah, Nick Bawdwn, Bruce Ellington, Da’Shawn Hand, Kerryon Johnson, Marvin Jones, T.J. Lang, Steve Longa, Jalen Reeves-Maybin, Michael Roberts and Charles Washington.

That’s 12 players, seven of whom were full-time starters. And another two players — cornerback DeShawn Shead and tight end Luke Willson — have also been ruled out for Sunday’s finale against Green Bay.

Receiver Kenny Golladay, cornerback/return man Jamal Agnew, running back LeGarrette Blount, safety Quandre Diggs, defensive tackle Snacks Harrison and cornerback Nevin Lawson are all questionable.

The Lions filled Robinson’s roster spot by claiming defensive end Mitchell Loewen off waivers from the Saints. He’s appeared in three career games since going undrafted out of Arkansas in 2016, but has yet to record a statistic.
