The Detroit Lions announced they have added guard Salesi Uhatafe to practice squad and waived wide receiver Deontez Alexander in a corresponding move.
After going undrafted in 2018, Uhatafe signed with the Atlanta Falcons where current Lions Wire contributor Matt Urben wrote about him at Falcons Wire, “Utah has produced some great pro guards in recent years. Uhatafe hopes to be the next. He is big but according to some scouts he may lack the athleticism to stick around. He gets good initial punch but needs to improve his ability to sustain blocks if he’s going to find a home in the NFL. Still, his kind of size and length will get your foot in the door.”
Uhatafe can swing between both guard positions and will give the Lions a developmental interior offensive lineman, essentially replacing Jamil Demby, who was poached off the practice squad by the Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday.
