The Detroit Lions signed former Alabama standout Joshua Frazier for their practice squad on Wednesday.
Frazier was one of the five defensive linemen who worked out for Detroit on Tuesday.
The signing reunited Frazier with Detroit defensive line coach Bo Davis and Lions defensive linemen D’Shawn Hand and A’Shawn Robinson.
Frazier and Hand were teammates at Alabama from 2014 through 2017. Davis was their position coach in 2014 and 2015, and Robinson played with Frazier at Alabama in those seasons, too.
The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Frazier in the seventh round of the NFL Draft in April. The Steelers released Frazier on Sept. 1, when they reduced their 90-player preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53.
Each NFL team can have a 10-player practice squad. The members of the unit practice with the team, but they cannot play in games.
Frazier didn’t get to practice with Hand on Wednesday. Hand was carted to the locker room during Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals with a knee injury, which turned out to be a Grade 2 MCL sprain. The Lions aren’t planning on Hand being able to play against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
