Jim Bob Cooter surfaces as potential Browns OC candidate

Freshly fired Lions offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter has a chance to land on his feet quickly. Per a report from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Cooter is scheduled to interview with the Cleveland Browns for their vacant offensive coordinator position under new head coach Freddie Kitchens.

Cooter spent nearly four seasons as the Lions offensive coordinator. He was a breath of fresh air upon taking over for Joe Lombardi in the middle of 2015, rising up from his QB coach position and helping Matthew Stafford become more efficient.

His offenses ranked 20th, 7th and 25th in points scored in 2016-18, respectively. Cooter’s scheme became entirely too predictable; New York Jets players were openly calling out the plays in the Week 1 meeting just by looking at the personnel and alignment, a scene which repeated itself several times.

Cooter will be the second known candidate to interview for the Browns gig, following former Tampa Bay OC Todd Monken.
