Jaylon Ferguson an enforcer option at EDGE for Lions

Jaylon Ferguson set the NCAA record for sacks at Louisiana Tech. His 45 sacks for the Bulldogs broke Terrell Suggs’ record, and Ferguson succeeded in a variety of ways at getting to the quarterback.

Now he’s here in Mobile at the Senior Bowl aiming to prove he’s capable of making the jump from Conference USA to the NFL the way Marcus Davenport did as the No. 14 overall pick in last year’s draft.

When asked about the level of competition, Ferguson was quick to point out he got two sacks against Mississippi State and a strip-sack against LSU this fall.

Ferguson does not have experience playing as a stand-up rusher, but he’s more than willing to do what it takes to make his mark in the NFL.

To get an idea of what he’s like as a competitor, Ferguson’s response to a question about his high school basketball career.

“I was an enforcer,” he said with a smile. “You score one time when I’m in the game you’re not going to score again. You’ll pick yourself up if you score again.”

That’s a mentality that can work for the Lions.
