Greenville man returns Lions lineman’s TD ball

(WOOD) — A football has been returned to the Detroit Lions offensive lineman who threw it into the stands after scoring his first touchdown last week.

“I can confirm that I’ve got my ball back,” Taylor Decker tweeted Wednesday evening.

Decker has been playing football since he was a first-grader, but the touchdown he made Dec. 2 at Ford Field was his first ever. As he celebrated, he threw the ball into the stands.

It was caught by Bill Zerbst of Greenville, who was sitting in the 23rd row.

“I got a beer in my left hand. I tip the ball with my right hand (and) cover that up for dear life,” he recalled while speaking with 24 Hour News 8 last week. “How rare is it to catch an NFL football? Being thrown by an offensive lineman? Ridiculous.”

When Decker made an appeal later to find the ball, Zerbst couldn’t say no. He said he contacted Decker and worked out a deal to give it back, though he wouldn’t give any details.
