Jarrad Davis’ best game of the season last week against the Miami Dolphins came at a price.

Davis sat out practice Wednesday with a calf injury he suffered against the Dolphins.

The second-year linebacker joined his teammates for stretching at the start of Wednesday’s workout, but he and Lions coach Matt Patricia had a long conversation at one point during the period and he did not take part in any individual drills.

Davis played 51 of 56 defensive snaps in the game, missing just one series in the first half, and finished with seven tackles and one sack.

“Every single week, he approaches the games with a lot of attention to detail, a lot of focus and a lot of determination to go out and play great,” Patricia said. “And he certainly, he’s a pleasure to coach from that aspect. He really does try to do a great job executing the gameplan. I thought he did a real good job of just playing with great situational awareness this week. There were some pretty key plays in the game where he was covering a lot of ground.”

Running back Theo Riddick also missed practice Wednesday as he continues to deal with the knee injury that kept him out of the Dolphins game, and four other players were limited.

Ziggy Ansah, who has not played since Week 1, was limited by a shoulder injury, and Darius Slay (toe), Golden Tate (ankle) and Ameer Abdullah (ankle) also were limited.

Slay was clearly not at full strength during the open portion of practice, when he spent part of the time visiting with trainers.
